The 2001 New England Patriots finished the regular season with an 11-5 record, good for first place in the AFC East Division. The Patriots clinched the division title with a 24-10 win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 17.
The Patriots' offense was led by quarterback Tom Brady, who threw for 2,733 yards and 18 touchdowns. Running back Antowain Smith rushed for 1,157 yards and 12 touchdowns. Wide receiver David Patten led the Patriots in receiving with 61 catches for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Patriots' defense was led by linebacker Tedy Bruschi, who recorded 134 tackles and four interceptions. Defensive end Richard Seymour added 6.5 sacks and 73 tackles. Safety Rodney Harrison also had a strong season, with 75 tackles and six interceptions.
The Patriots lost to the St. Louis Rams in the Super Bowl XXXVI, 20-17.
